November 2024 Newsletter

Hi Everyone

As the winter is beginning to draw in, I thought I would share an uplifting picture of me discussing the finer points of chipping in the Turkish sunshine last week.  Good fortune and what I gamely call work, saw me out at the wonderful Gloria resort hosting a group with my friend and colleague Samantha Head for DS Golf.  The golf is terrific out there and with temperatures in the mid-20s, there’s lots to be said for going there.

Closer to home I’m really looking forward to the opening of our Golf Studio at Mid Herts.  I will cover this more fully in the next newsletter after the Opening Ceremony on December 8th which neatly coincides with my birthday.

These are exciting times at Mid Herts Golf Club and the opening of the studio will tie in wonderfully with and the appointment of our new PGA Professional, Andy Dellar who will also be starting in December.  I’ve known Andy since he turned professional, and we are fortunate indeed to secure his services to be our Club Professional.  He has a all-round knowledge of the game, is a super coach and is a really great person.

The Studio will be so much more than a refuge from inclement weather (although really welcome when it is) with swing analysis, structured practice, accurate yardages for our clubs and play some really fun virtual golf courses.  I have Pebble Beach on my bucket list and now I can warm up on it, as it may be a while until I actually set foot there, as it seems like the cost of the green fees would swallow up my pension pot!

We will also be reinstating a Pro Shop offering a range of goods and services for members and guests.  The Club have negotiated a deal with Old Town Golf to supply us with stock.  It will take a while to discover tastes and trends for all our members, so once we are underway all feedback will be very welcome.

Clearly, the golfing goods market is a competitive and complex one, however, I believe what is important in a golf club setting is that of service to the members, their guests and other guests.  There will be promotions etc, but the intention isn’t to bombard you all with loads of emails, but to offer modern up to date golf equipment with some good old-fashioned service.

I started this newsletter mentioning chipping, so I will sign off with a piece on the subject which hopefully you’ll find useful look here.

All the best
