4 April 2016 Newsletter

Hello Everyone,

This week to me always signifies the real start of the golf season as The Masters is here. The list of potential winners is possibly one of the longest ever (are you beginning to sense a bit of a "get out clause" coming?) and trying to choose a winner will be incredibly difficult (how seemless was that!)

As is tradition and despite evidence to the contrary this year I am as confident as ever, that this is the year I break my three decade duck in regards to predicting a Major Championship winner. So the smart talk is all around the "Big Four" and it is difficult to look outside Rory, Rickie, Jason and Jordan. However, I have a feeling the hype will get to them all and a dark horse will come up on the rails, with this in mind I have plumped for the ebullient Brandt Snedeker. He is rather on or off with his golf, but something tells me it be an "on" week. This is the same something by the way that tells me each year that Watford will win the FA Cup and have a stress free season....

This will be my last newsletter from the Mid Herts Pro Shop as Rob Leonard will take over the running and day to day operations of the Pro Shop from May. I will occassionally add some thoughts to his newsletters and will continue to do my own with tips and my thoughts on golf and of course occasionally football. I will continue to coach at Mid Herts and I am looking forward to the next chapter in the Club History and wish Rob and his team all the best with the new venture.

I will be coaching at the club on a regular basis and anyone wishing to book a lesson can now book online (thank goodness for the internet and even bigger thanks to the current Mrs Puttick for showing me how it works) which several of you have taken advantage of already. I am on the same email address and mobile number and will be available for coaching from the end of April and look forward to hearing from you.

I am also pursuing some other interests and expanding my role with David Short Golf . Have a look at our golf schools, golf & coaching and escorted trips both home and abroad.

Although I am changing roles, I am happy to be part of Mid Herts which has been my golfing home for the past 15 years. On that note I wanted to thank you all for your support over the years and how welcome you have always made me. It would be remiss not to mention the "dynamic duo" of Celio and Callum. Callum is changing direction at the end of this month and he too will be around as he is becoming a member again and once his amateur status is regained, will be a valuable man in our scratch team. He is ever helpful, has a great work ethic and I know will be a success in his new life. A special thanks to Celio, who has been a truly loyal and great friend to work with. His all round knowledge on all things mechanical, repairable and IT able is second to none. He has a sixth sense when it comes to making me tea and gets on with everything with a no nonsense approach. I have been truly blessed to work with Celio, actually it was more him looking after me, as he does his lovely children and I want to wish him and his family all the best for the future.

Good luck with your upcoming golf and may your highs outweigh your lows.

All the best

Barney
